Noel-Levitz E-Recruiting Trends

The recently released Noel Levitz report is now available for download:

In taking a look at the report their were some very interesting trends:

-more secret shoppers looking for college (is your website up to speed?)

-budgets at private schools are increasing for web based marketing, but decreasing at public institutions

-text messaging has become more prevalent with prospective private school students versus public school students

I think its very interesting to note that both 2 and 4 year schools first point of contact with students is an application they have received, which points to the “secret shopper” theory.  Does this flatten your recruiting funnel?  Absolutely.

The web trend continues for students downloading applications, campus visit requests, and  financial aid forms.  The report also mentions a huge upswing in registering for courses online and confirming acceptance.  The report also indicated a major dip in web inquiries for public school prospective students.

A very interesting social media sidebar that is stated in the report is that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube’s usage is on the rise when MySpace is falling off.

The report coincides very nicely with what I have been writing about regarding mobile marketing and mobile marketing trends.  Over 75% of admissions counselors now ask for a students cellular phone number.  The majority of students surveyed also indicated that they were ok with receiving a text message from a college representative.

Noel Levitz is due to release another report soon “E-Expectations” and when they do, I will put it on the blog for download and have a reaction for you.

Thanks for sharing this and your key takeaways. I need to take some time to dig into this report. There's always good stuff to mine from the Noel-Levitz studies.
